This piece is instrumental theatre in genre and something like tragic farce in spirit. The dodecaphonic series lying at the heart of the composition is three diminished seventh chords at a distance of one tone from each other. This dodecaphonic harmony is maintained throughout the entire form, which consists of three sections, virtually transforming into a sonoristic conplex. The choir curcumstates events or takes direct participation in them, – along with the soloist, it carries the main load of meaning. The quotation from Schubert, arising unexpectedly in the coda, underlines the absurdity of what is taking place.
